Sheets and Leaks

With so much new content, it's going to be tough to highlight individuals but I suppose a good place to start is with the customs. There are a bunch of new Mario customs among a handful of others for a total of 41 new submissions to the section this week which is always awesome to see!
Outside of the custom section, there's obviously plenty more so let's get started. The DS / DSi gets 105 new submissions with a ton from Castlevania (thanks to rufaswan's continued efforts) and also a bunch from Mario & Luigi: Bowswer's Inside Story (courtesy of Greiga Master and our very own Ton), and a few more from Super Robot Wars W and Kingdom Hearts to round everything out. Kingdom Hearts also appears in our mobile section (mayphelion) alongside Professor Layton (Luna16) and lots more so there's plenty to see there as well! And to finish off this random selection, the Nintendo Switch sees submissions to four of its games this week - Cadence of Hyrule (brought to us by RTB and Dazz), Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Dakress), Paper Mario: The Origami King (courtesy of a variety of people), and one more submission to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for quite the showing this week as well! That's really just a small sampling of what this update has to offer though so be sure to check out what interests you and perhaps pass on a thank you to those who ripped it!
Before I go though, I do want to quickly cover one important event that just recently happened. As I'm sure many of you are already aware, a large amount of confidential and sensitive data from Nintendo was recently leaked. This may sound hypocritical coming from us given the nature of the content on this site but we can't support or participate in the large-scale theft of intellectual property so we will not be accepting any submissions from this leaked data. It wasn't just images that were released - the full source code of various games and a bunch of other internal-only data is now out there and that goes way beyond what we do here, especially since many of those games are still available for purchase in one form or another directly from Nintendo. So, out of respect for their works as well as our time and yours, please do not submit anything obtained from these files - it will be rejected on-sight.
On that note though, that does it for this week's update! Be sure to check in next week for updates on all four sites and in the meantime, enjoy your weekend!
Edit: Because this has apparently gone wildly off the rails, let me make one thing crystal clear. Not accepting content from these leaks is not a moral issue. Respect for the private information included in the leak may be a small component here but the reality is, this data was obtained through a targeted and overtly illegal attack on Nintendo's servers and there is nothing gray about it. When I said we can't participate in large-scale theft, that's what I was referring to - the incredibly illegal nature of how this data was obtained. Nintendo has already been removing the content from other sites which should be evidence enough that it was a good call, for legal reasons, to not upload it here. Morality was never my primary reason for refusing this content - it was just a bonus at that point.

@AFruitaday! They've already started - many of the links to archives and dumps from the leak are already dead and I'm sure more are to disappear in the coming days. I can't find the source at the moment so someone feel free to link it if you have it but from what I've heard, even archive.org's copy of the data has been purged and it's not terribly common to see anything removed from their archives.

How would nintendo respond to this gigaleak and when exactly? BTW and to be fair, most people on this post. Instead of complaining about not getting to post any unused sprites of the gigaleak, why not wait later and post other sprites from obscure companies. How about contributing to a project eh?

While everyone has a feeling of discomfort from the leaks... Think about the pirates who were executed when caught by the navy in various points in history. Considering this is the digital equivelant of Edward Teach's greatest hiest, Blockade of Charles Town, the leaker is Very Screwed...

@nonesuchriver: "If I robbed a bank and went hidden for 2 years and then just gave my money to someone else would anyone give a dang at that point." Yes, a lot of people would, especially the bank owner and the police. Just to give you a famous example, Ronald Biggs robbed a train in 1963 and was only arrested in 2001, 38 years after the fact, and still got condemned to 30 years of prison

Since DogToon64 mentioned the fact that eve has been banned and since others are likely to notice as well, I do need to add one more thing. While I won't go into the exact reasons she was banned (we don't typically discuss actions taken against members with the public at all but I'm making an exception here), I will say that it had nothing to do with her attitude or comments here. The ban resulted from a couple of private interactions outside of the comments.

Well. It looks like the drama is finally over. Thank goodness.
(I don't intend to sound ignorant here)
@eve You know, from the way you were talking to the staff and other people, I'll give you a couple of suggestions:
(A). Move to another site
(B). If you have 6+ staff members on you: The best thing to do is shut up
And like SpritZ said, you're just noting the negative stuff about this site. There's positive stuff about this place too.
EDIT: Just found out she's been banned

I think we've adequately addressed exactly why there are no double standards here so I'm going to skip going over that again and instead ask you, Tailikku, what your goal is here? Because by saying we're applying double standards and allowing some leaked content while forbidding others, the only logical action to take would be to remove the existing leaked content based on our current stance. So is your goal to have content that's currently on the site deleted?

All I'm seeing from this comment section and the announcement is just a big wall of Double Standards

Eve, I think you're biased on this post. Sure it has some controversial stuff in the site. Beyond that however, there's pretty good submissions. I don't know what side should I join in, way too difficult to decide.

You know, I heard that discomfort can make you stronger. (o゜▽゜)o☆
FYI, Eve. You've only been noting the "negative" aspects of the site, browse it a bit more! There's a lot of cool things on here. Don't waste your time trying to make a point without a plate to put it on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lets just leave it on that and leave on good terms.

This is becoming like when people were mad at the Black Lives Matter post. I avoided the drama because it was WAY too controversial. Besides, what about all the other stuff that isn't sprite ripped yet?

@nonesuchriver: Considering eve started flinging insults to the staff via PMs and the fact that they refused to change their attitude, my point about them being a lost cause was absolutely warranted.
And I said it to SpritZ earlier and I'll say it again -- the amount of time passed isn't going to suddenly make things from the Gigaleak "okay" to upload.

Listen, this whole comment section has become toxic, first of all your reasoning for not hosting leaked content makes no sense, wasn't the Simon Wai prototype of sonic 2 literally stolen from a trade show and pirated. Second of all this while this data was stolen illegally keep in mind this was over 2 years ago at this point. The hacker was arrested but not before his friends backed it up. 2 years pass and they are slowly but surely being released. If I robbed a bank and went hidden for 2 years and then just gave my money to someone else would anyone give a dang at that point. The way the admins and senior members have been treating people over this. Some of the people may be acting toxic but that is no excuse to be toxic back at them. "go throw a tantrum somewhere else" "your a lost cause" Listen I am just trying to sort out this situation and have both sides come to an agreement here. You guys can have your opinion and I respect that. But It just doesn't add up

brb going to tell Wayforward and Yacht Club they're not real game developers.

@eve Actually, I built the entirety of this site from scratch but once again, I also haven't claimed to be an artist or to have created any of the works seen on the site so I really don't get why you're harping so hard on that point when it is literally completely unrelated to anything we've been discussing. And speaking of our "discussion", you seem completely incapable of having one given that you are outright ignoring anything that proves you wrong and you can't seem to deal with that so I think it's time for you to have a nice little timeout now. Maybe use this time to reflect and then come back when you can figure out how to use your grown-up words.
@everyone else I'd also like to add that while we could clean this up and start deleting comments and banning people, doing so only tends to make things worse. People are allowed to have opinions and when they're voiced, we're allowed to respond. Sometimes it devolves into the mess you see below but I think it's important to not simply silence people we don't agree with.

The comment section is gonna become, you know.

@Ton
>The average kid using that Yoshi sheet has no idea how it's stored in the game files.
In this day and age, that's very false.
>hurrlaughable and durrsad
Reminds me of this website's standards.
>We do them both well, and the professionals agree, since they use the site and its assets for game development all the time.
"Professional" and "Using already existing sprites for game dev" are both contradictions/opposites. You're delusional for thinking approval from ROM hackers makes you professional by any stretch. You don't know anything about the very craft of sprites.
@Pet
You've NEVER done ANYTHING from scratch. Shut the fuck up LMAOOOOOOOOOO

Is this all predicated on a throwaway comment on one sheet? The average kid using that Yoshi sheet has no idea how it's stored in the game files. Maybe they find it interesting. But either way, it's essentially a space filler. It's not the focus of the sheet. And your losing your mind about it is equal parts laughable and sad.
This site serves two major purposes; to archive graphics from games for public use, and to showcase custom work. We do them both well, and the professionals agree, since they use the site and its assets for game development all the time.
So please, continue to gatekeep about a free hobby on a free website that you have nothing to do with, but go somewhere else to do it.

@eve Are you actually this dense or are you just trying to stir the pot because you're bored and have been banned from everywhere else you've tried to troll? We're an archival site above all else. Most of the content on the site has been ripped from games - custom work is a very small part of what's offered here and not our primary focus so I hardly see that as leeching and once again fail to see your point. You've literally contributed nothing to the site so even if we were all about custom pixel art, you still don't have a leg to stand on.
Also, just FYI, you may want to learn to use the search correctly before you complain about its results. https://www.spriters-resource.com/search/?q="super+mario+world" would have given you a much more accurate result set. Or, and I know this is going to sound crazy, but you could have also just browsed directly to the Super Mario World game which would, shockingly, have only Super Mario World content in it: https://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/smarioworld/
Let me give you a little hint so you can avoid ruining your day by accidentally stumbling across us again in the future - add "-site:spriters-resource.com" to your future Google searches and you can be sure you won't be forced to see us at the top of your search results.
