You were saying...? You shouldn't put your faith in a random GitHub page which, by the sounds of it, has made a bunch of changes compared to the original game.

I'm not sure if somebody has already mentioned this, or if it's just common knowledge, but the "falling/yanked into the distance" sprites could've been for losing in the special stage. they might've tried that again in the Sonic CD prototypes with the early special stages resembling the Sonic 1 special stages and similar sprites in early builds. pardon me if this was already considered.
