Hey everyone! I feel like it's been quite a while since I've done one of these so I'm here to bring you just over 800 new sheets this week!

With so much new content, it's going to be tough to highlight individuals but I suppose a good place to start is with the customs. There are a bunch of new Mario customs among a handful of others for a total of 41 new submissions to the section this week which is always awesome to see!

Outside of the custom section, there's obviously plenty more so let's get started. The DS / DSi gets 105 new submissions with a ton from Castlevania (thanks to rufaswan's continued efforts) and also a bunch from Mario & Luigi: Bowswer's Inside Story (courtesy of Greiga Master and our very own Ton), and a few more from Super Robot Wars W and Kingdom Hearts to round everything out. Kingdom Hearts also appears in our mobile section (mayphelion) alongside Professor Layton (Luna16) and lots more so there's plenty to see there as well! And to finish off this random selection, the Nintendo Switch sees submissions to four of its games this week - Cadence of Hyrule (brought to us by RTB and Dazz), Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Dakress), Paper Mario: The Origami King (courtesy of a variety of people), and one more submission to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for quite the showing this week as well! That's really just a small sampling of what this update has to offer though so be sure to check out what interests you and perhaps pass on a thank you to those who ripped it!

Before I go though, I do want to quickly cover one important event that just recently happened. As I'm sure many of you are already aware, a large amount of confidential and sensitive data from Nintendo was recently leaked. This may sound hypocritical coming from us given the nature of the content on this site but we can't support or participate in the large-scale theft of intellectual property so we will not be accepting any submissions from this leaked data. It wasn't just images that were released - the full source code of various games and a bunch of other internal-only data is now out there and that goes way beyond what we do here, especially since many of those games are still available for purchase in one form or another directly from Nintendo. So, out of respect for their works as well as our time and yours, please do not submit anything obtained from these files - it will be rejected on-sight.

On that note though, that does it for this week's update! Be sure to check in next week for updates on all four sites and in the meantime, enjoy your weekend!

Edit: Because this has apparently gone wildly off the rails, let me make one thing crystal clear. Not accepting content from these leaks is not a moral issue. Respect for the private information included in the leak may be a small component here but the reality is, this data was obtained through a targeted and overtly illegal attack on Nintendo's servers and there is nothing gray about it. When I said we can't participate in large-scale theft, that's what I was referring to - the incredibly illegal nature of how this data was obtained. Nintendo has already been removing the content from other sites which should be evidence enough that it was a good call, for legal reasons, to not upload it here. Morality was never my primary reason for refusing this content - it was just a bonus at that point.

So many rare beta content.
Also I laughed so hard when I saw those panic faces from Star Fox 2.

I actually found a grammar mistake that shouldn't be in that image.

@ObsidianPlague
1. I'm really just wanting to stay out of this
2. I'm ok with that
3. If "the finger" is what I think you're talking about, then I can see why it's a big no no

EDIT: 4. I'd rather have something I can easily learn the style from than the one that's harder to learn

@ObsidianPlague: The Pokémon Spaceworld demo was not part of the "Gigaleak" and was made public in an entirely different way. Get the sprites from somewhere else.
If we host rips from the "Gigaleak," there is a good chance the entire site will be taken down.

Darn, it would be nice to at least have stuff like the uncompressed Super Mario 64 sound effects on here. But this is understandable - this website is already pushing its luck with Nintendo's grip on their copyrighted content and intellectual property as-is.

@DogToon64 VG resource has unreleased pokemon sprites from THE EXACT SAME DUMP. This is a ridiculous double standard. Somehow pokemon sprites are okay, but a model of luigi and a sprite of luigi giving the finger is a big nono.

My gosh, I haven't seen this many comments in an update since...
Anyways, in seriousness. At first, I didn't understand why, but I think I do now:

- We can't post the leaked sprites because Nintendo never wanted them to be seen by us. Almost like how the Patreon sprites in the Pizza Tower (Demo) section can't be posted because Patreon builds are private, unless they're inside one of the public demo's files (like Kentucky Kenny or the Alien), used or unused.
- If we even can post them (which I don't know if that will happen), it might be a few or several years to never.
- Other sites like the Cutting Room Floor are sharing them, so we should use them instead of trying to post them on tSR. Like when Ton says down below that there's other people posting them.

I believe what I'm saying here is correct, am I right?

(@ObsidianPlague Really? That's what you have to say about the staff... just wow...)

For anyone complaining; sprite ripping is a VERY grey area, legally. We could theoretically be shut down by any of the companies whose graphics we host at any time. What’s more, nearly every (if not every) major gaming company knows we exist. They visit the site, use our sheets, etc. This is documented. We have an unspoken relationship with them that they turn a blind eye as long as we don’t do things that run against them.
This, unequivocally, does. In order to stay operational, we won’t be venturing into these waters. There are plenty of other people out there who are posting graphics. Use them.

Murphmario, I believe the staff's position is concrete - it's never going to happen here.

@ObsidianPlague: So you're saying it's perfectly fine for people to break into corporate servers and steal / redistribute terabytes of personal information, damaging the livelihoods of others in the process?

There's an astronomical difference between ripping content from games that were released to the public as-is (i.e., nothing that we haven't seen before) and redistributing confidential information that nobody outside Nintendo was ever meant to see.

Have this Tweet thread from Cheesemeister3k. He explains the situation quite well.

Maybe the sheets could be allowed once the coast is cleared in, say, by the end of this year? Chances are if TCRF and SMWCentral are fine, then TSR would be too.

@RedDashGames Yes, the leak that happened back in May had Spaceworld prototypes of Pokémon Gold and Silver, but they are from a different year.
The one dumped 2 years ago was the Gold Version demo seen in Spaceworld '97, while the leak from May 2020 had the Gold and Silver versions demos from Spaceworld '99.
In other words, the page (https://www.spriters-resource.com/game_boy_gbc/pokemongoldsilverspaceworld1997prototype/) is OK to be in here as it wasn't from this year's leaks and from a cartridge that, despite being stolen, it ended up in someone's hands (just like the Simon Wai prototype of Sonic 2).

Edit: Ok, we're dealing with Nintendo and NOT Sega, so this might be difficult to compare the Pokémon demo from '97 with Sonic 2's prototype.

Oh and 802 was quite good though that said in under 2 days i uploaded over 93 to the site, with over 50 in Pending. all 10 of the games i ripped i ripped every last graphic from the rom/executable took a whole day just to upload them to the site. hopefully nobody has to go back to them. :P

"Brain Exercise with Dr. Kawashima" itself had over 100 massive (high res) sheets that was a nightmare to upload with sub 50kb/s wifi.

Oh and if anyone has any sigestions on what to rip and/or how to improve my sheets please let me know.

just to confirm the Pokemon Spaceworld rom was from the same leak, you can in-fact find the original rom inside the Pokemon Gold and Silver source leak. when it was first released they didnt want people to know about all the data they had from the hack so the team behind its release lied saying something along the lines it was dumped from someone who owns a shop in Japan, though we quickly found out the truth.

So if you really want to remove all data from these leaks that whole page has to get taken down.

The one Spaceworld 97 proto was dumped from an actual cartridge I believe, similar to the Sonic protos. The other Gold and Silver protos were leaks similar to the Gigaleak's prototypes and aren't allowed for the same reasons said Gigaleak protos aren't.

@Tsukiyomaru0 Not everything is so black and white and this was never about fighting leakers. As implied in the original post, we obviously already operate in a gray area but for the most part, bigger companies seem to at least tolerate us and I think that is in large part due to the fact that we do respect their rights. We don’t allow music and make every effort to clarify that the assets found here cannot be used commercially. We don’t upload source code or ROMs nor do we provide instructions or support on how to do so.

This situation is different because if we accepted content from these leaks, we would be at the very least indirectly advocating for those who illegally acquired this data and we won’t do that. Much more than game assets were released including confidential and personal information about the developers involved and that just isn’t right. So as I said, this isn’t about the leakers - it’s about respecting Nintendo and their staff just as they’ve done for us through their inaction.

@Omega Do you mean like customs based on the style of assets contained in these leaks or something like 1:1 recreations but that weren’t directly obtained from the leaked data? For the former, custom work inspired by it should be fine but in the latter case, no, as it wouldn’t be all too different than just uploading them directly.

Your welcome for my couple of rips & my Metal Knuckles everyone. (no pun intended)
It's hard to believe we got over 800!

The Cutting Room Floor doesn't bothers about the means, apparently.
Also, by merely extracting assets it is already theft of intellectual property, and what's to say that the prototypes some bought and dumped aren't stole or deals "under the desk"?

So... I don't think those were wise word choices in fighting "leakers".

Gotcha, another question: are recreations from this allowed?
