Hey everyone! I feel like it's been quite a while since I've done one of these so I'm here to bring you just over 800 new sheets this week!

With so much new content, it's going to be tough to highlight individuals but I suppose a good place to start is with the customs. There are a bunch of new Mario customs among a handful of others for a total of 41 new submissions to the section this week which is always awesome to see!

Outside of the custom section, there's obviously plenty more so let's get started. The DS / DSi gets 105 new submissions with a ton from Castlevania (thanks to rufaswan's continued efforts) and also a bunch from Mario & Luigi: Bowswer's Inside Story (courtesy of Greiga Master and our very own Ton), and a few more from Super Robot Wars W and Kingdom Hearts to round everything out. Kingdom Hearts also appears in our mobile section (mayphelion) alongside Professor Layton (Luna16) and lots more so there's plenty to see there as well! And to finish off this random selection, the Nintendo Switch sees submissions to four of its games this week - Cadence of Hyrule (brought to us by RTB and Dazz), Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Dakress), Paper Mario: The Origami King (courtesy of a variety of people), and one more submission to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for quite the showing this week as well! That's really just a small sampling of what this update has to offer though so be sure to check out what interests you and perhaps pass on a thank you to those who ripped it!

Before I go though, I do want to quickly cover one important event that just recently happened. As I'm sure many of you are already aware, a large amount of confidential and sensitive data from Nintendo was recently leaked. This may sound hypocritical coming from us given the nature of the content on this site but we can't support or participate in the large-scale theft of intellectual property so we will not be accepting any submissions from this leaked data. It wasn't just images that were released - the full source code of various games and a bunch of other internal-only data is now out there and that goes way beyond what we do here, especially since many of those games are still available for purchase in one form or another directly from Nintendo. So, out of respect for their works as well as our time and yours, please do not submit anything obtained from these files - it will be rejected on-sight.

On that note though, that does it for this week's update! Be sure to check in next week for updates on all four sites and in the meantime, enjoy your weekend!

Edit: Because this has apparently gone wildly off the rails, let me make one thing crystal clear. Not accepting content from these leaks is not a moral issue. Respect for the private information included in the leak may be a small component here but the reality is, this data was obtained through a targeted and overtly illegal attack on Nintendo's servers and there is nothing gray about it. When I said we can't participate in large-scale theft, that's what I was referring to - the incredibly illegal nature of how this data was obtained. Nintendo has already been removing the content from other sites which should be evidence enough that it was a good call, for legal reasons, to not upload it here. Morality was never my primary reason for refusing this content - it was just a bonus at that point.

@Tailikku: ...you mean the "beta" sprites that had existed in Yoshi's Island's final version ROM since day one? Please actually do your research before making false claims like that.

@eve: I'm not going to waste my breath yelling at you if you're going to avoid my question about what sheets are the ones you think are awful. You're a lost cause.

Also don't think I didn't see your other comment before it was deleted. I don't appreciate you stereotyping our community like that.

Are we even sure that they were obtained illegally? The same could be said about the roms used to obtained the spirtes that were originally on here.

I guess in retrospect, people losing their minds over us not wanting to host illegally obtained content is the most obvious thing in the world.

It's like that Team Fortress 2 source code leak all over again.

Mind if I suggest something that could maybe be done about this comments section?

How are people not understanding this? The Space World prototype and anything else that may be included in this leak that's already on the site have been on the site for years. Even if that same data is included in this particular leak, the fact that the content here significantly predates this leak means that obviously, the assets we already have did not come from it. I'm not sure why so many of you are harping on that point though because all it's going to accomplish is the removal of the existing Space World prototype page (and anything else that overlaps) instead of, what I'm assuming is your actual goal, the approval of additional content from this leak.

There are literally no double-standards here. We said, very clearly, that no submissions from the Gigaleak would be accepted and as it stands right now, none have been.

Oh my god. The staff here is having so many double standards about not wanting the Gigaleak sprites on here, and yet sprites from that same leak have been on here for ages (YI beta graphics).

To clarify most of the "bad" custom sprites that are here are because they're really old and sort of hold some nostalgic and historical value of what content the site was getting back in the 00s

@eve I never claimed to be a pixel artist or animator nor did I say I made my own avatar so I'm not sure I see your point?

Since you seem to have a tenuous grasp on reality at best though, I feel it's prudent to point something out to you that you may have overlooked. We're not just a pixel art site. We have a Custom / Edited section (which, contrary to your assumption that we mix custom sprites in with official ones, separates out the custom work from the rips) for pixel artists to submit their work but the primary purpose of the site is to archive and preserve assets ripped directly from games so again, I don't see your point.

And there's one other thing I don't see - why is it people like you who seem to have nothing but disdain for the site even bother to post? If you hate it here so much, if you think it's all crap and not worth your time to even submit to, why on Earth are you here spewing your toxic garbage? Run off to your Pixeljoint or Pixelation or any other "actually good" pixelart site so you don't need to subject your poor, innocent eyeballs to the atrocities committed here.

@Murphmario Yes, we certainly don't claim that everything on the site is perfect. Standards were much more relaxed and have steadily and significantly improved over the years but given how long some of the "bad" sheets have been around, we don't delete them until a better rip takes their places.

A lot of the badly-ripped official sprites were done WAY back when, and probably wouldn't be accepted now. Not to mention that badly-ripped sprites are better than no sprites ripped at all IMO.

@Pingus!
You think you're uptight? That's the exact opposite of my entire point. lol

@Random
Are you effing blind? Look at all the custom crap you allow and mix with the official but badly ripped sprites.
And just because you have consistent standards doesn't mean they're high standards.

@Pet
Maybe because I only contribute on sites that aren't absolutely crap (like this one)? Never heard of Pixeljoint or Pixelation or any other actually good pixelart sites?

>that one comment below is literally your only contribution to the entire network since you joined over six years ago so excuse me if I have trouble taking anything you say about our quality control, the people who use the site and its resources, or the staff's abilities even slightly seriously.
100% chance you're neither a pixelartist+animator AND didn't make your own avatar. And no, re-skinning already existing sprites doesn't make you a pixelartist. lol

This may be if not THE most controversial event on this site, alongside with the Black Lives Matter post. I don't know which side to take. But it's super hard not to get over with the leaks that Nintendo doesn't want to allow. Suffice to say, it's such a shame there's no news aboout any unreleased Kaneko game prototype or test location leaks. I'm not begging them to get a rom file online, but MAN it's so hard not to get over it. Pretty much the Holy Grail of their unreleased games has to be the Tatsujin and Same! Same! Same! for the Sharp X68000. There's evidence showing that of a hishouzame announcement advertisement for Twin Cobra, Truxton, and Fire Shark ports for X68000.

@eve: I take it you've never run a website before. To say that we have "awful quality control for years" implies that we just blindly accept anything thrown at us. Do you know how many submissions we go through on a regular basis? I'm going to fill you in on something -- there have been over 7,500 submissions that we've rejected since we started the site, just on tSR alone. SEVEN. THOUSAND. I've personally been working with this site since before 2008, and the staff know what's acceptable and what's not. We've had tons of submissions that were not even close to being acceptable, and outright stolen crap. And did said submissions make it to the site? No, because we have quality control.

And do you seriously expect us to know every waking detail of the games we've been approving the submissions for? The staff are not walking encyclopedias of video games, as much as we try we can't verify what's official and what's not sometimes. But we know for damn sure what's from the leaks -- we've already rejected dozens of "Gigaleak" submissions that people have been submitting to us.

But yeah. Go ahead. Show us exactly what you mean by us having "AWFUL quality control". I'm waiting.

@eve I find it neat that someone who doesn’t have a clue how the site staff work behind the scenes had the nerve to write such an asinine remark. We love having people be in this community, but we unfortunately can’t please everyone. Our standards are set because we deal with stolen sprites and models way too frequently, which is why you may view us as “uptight”. I’m sorry you felt it necessary to embarrass yourself and insult an entire community of sprite rippers with such an elitist remark. I can assure you we will have no trouble catching the leaked content, because it’s become pretty obvious what that content consists of.

Bruh. This site has had AWFUL quality control for YEARS. Only the people who know nothing about pixelart (100% of people who use the word sprite/spriter instead pixelart/pixelartist) regularly use and trust this site as a "resource". The quality control here is so bad you let anyone upload their own poor-a$$ sprites and mix them with official ones. Not that any of you guys can even rip stuff properly to begin with, so I'd be surprised if you could even catch any of the leaked stuff being uploaded here.

I completely understand this choice. To be honest, I'm kinda surprised Nintendo hasn't even tried filing a DMCA like some other companies already had. If that were to happen, it'd be a massive blow to TVGR as a whole.

I have a bit to say on this. the pokemon gold/silver leaks were from the same source as the gigaleak, and even *those* included the *full names, phone numbers, and email adresses* of gamefreak employees. The only reason you are putting down the hammer now is because this one got media attention.

There is nothing to consider. Our stance is already set in stone for all of the reasons we've already described. Unless Nintendo comes out and for whatever reason releases those assets to the public themselves, they will never be accepted here.

@SpritZ: The amount of time passed isn't going to suddenly make things "okay" to upload.

I'd say atleast wait a few months to see what Nintendo will do about the situation, and then perhaps think more about releasing *certain* things on TSR/TMR? You don't have to of course, but it's something to consider. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
