@Obama Crichton based their portrayal in the novel off the Deinonychus (which are.... mildly larger than real Velociraptors, but still nowhere near as tall as an average adult human), but gave the name "Velociraptor" because it sounded cooler and seemed like the kind of thing InGen would do. Given the book pointed out they're ultimately a bunch of spliced lizard-frogs, scientific inaccuracies are a given.
Looking at its size compared to Alan Grant, it's probably Utahraptor.
