@AsuharaMoon: Alrighty then, go right ahead!
(EDIT: Thanks for the revisions, AsuharaMoon and Sonicfan32!)

@Random Talking Bush Check your PMs.

I'll be updating this sheet with anything new I find in the v0.02 beta soon -- there's definitely at least one new animation that's not here already!
(EDIT: See above comments.)

I just compared the Sonic 1 sprites vs the CD walking sprites. There appear to be no difference other than Sonic doesn't bob up and down in the CD version (making him look sorta weird)

EDIT: Apparently SEGA likes Sonic 1 sprites?

Also the electrocuted sprites are used in the 2011 remake, for being electrocuted in WWZ.

@Koopa actually the electrocuted sprites got used in the 510 alpha where metal sonic would put an eletric forcefield around him when kidnapping amy in order to prevent sonic from saving her

@Koopa I... never actually thought about that last one as “going in a ring”, that actually makes quite a bit of sense.
The upside down death animations I don’t think were meant to be death animations per say. They’re actually unique sprites (and not just the same sprites upside down) and considering that they both have his left leg outstretched in the same-ish position it leads me to believe that Sonic is being grabbed by the foot here.

is it me or do the walking sprites look like the airwalk sprites from sonic1

So, I'll go with all unused sprites and give my own theory:
-Closed eyes: it may be an unused frame of Sonic blinking.
-Looking back: probably some kind-of "looking up and then pressing the opposite direction of where Sonic looked at". Not only it could have been removed for being useless, but it may be annoying if you just wanna slightly look up and then advance through the level.
-Sneezing: it has been seen in the intro. I think that the Collision Chaos Badnik that "shoots" sparkles would make Sonic stop and sneeze.
-"Swimming": Sonic trying to swim ? It's obiviously for Tidal Tempest, but I think it may be for those propellers that swings Sonic around instead of using the "glide" animation.
-Skidding/Grabbing: As there's no part in the game where Sonic grabs anything while being on-ground, it may have been as an unused skidding animation.
-Open arms: probably some kind-of balancing animation.
-Hanging: another balancing animation, just weirder.
-Hanging 2: as they're very similar to the ones that are used for Wacky Workbench, maybe they were supposed to appear when you don't move while hanging.
-Electrocuted: Wacky Workbench has the answer for you.
-Grabbing/Skidding 2: I don't think Sonic is grabbing anything. My theory is that it's the first frame of the previous unused grabbing/skidding sprite.
-Falling/Dying upside-down: either it's a death animation, or it's Sonic being grabbed. Could have been for the Wacky Workbench floor.
-Spinning: could have been a "going in the ring" animation.
And... that's it.

"I'm outta here!"

I'm sure this is reflected in the PC version, but the two sprites of sonic being electrocuted on the bottom left end up actually being used in the Taxman remake.
TINY SONIC

The change that I noticed is that he removed the unused Sonic 1 sprites, minus the background being changed and the sprites being organized.

Thanks for correcting the colors

All i did was take a screenshot in sonic 1 using Fusion, and then I took one from sonic CD using Fusion. After that, I took a walking frame from this sheet and the s1 sheet and compared them. On another note I'm not sure if the screenshot is showing up or not.

Are you sure both of those are raw? And remember, SEGA CD may be an add-on, but it is by all accounts a different system, so discrepancies are to be expected.

@Doc von Schmeltwick I'll show you an example of the color difference

@SuperS192 He's the same as in Sonic 1 here too, it looks like...

@beanluv There is a problem with the color of sonic. By that I mean the the blue on sonic. It's more of a purple hue than a blue hue. However, when I loaded my sonic cd iso on Fusion, Sonic was the same blue hue in sonic 1
edit: it's a single pixel lmao
