These seem to be translated versions of their chinese names. Examples:
* Bulbasaur is called "Frogseed" when its name in Chinese is "Miàowāzhǒngzǐ" (Wonderful Frog Seed).
* Jigglypuff is called "Fat D" when its name in Chinese is "Pàngdīng" (a portmanteau of "Fat" and "Pudding".
* Machop is called "Strongwrist" when its name in Chinese is "Wànlì" (Strong Wrist).
* Rhydon is called "Armordigimon" when its name in Chinese is "Tiějiǎbàolóng" (Armor Tyrannosaurus Rex). I don't know how T-Rex became Digimon.
* Feraligatr is called "Strong Bear" when its name in Chinese is "Dàlì'è" (a portmanteau of "Vigorous" and "Crocodile/Alligator".) Note that the character used for "Crocodile/Alligator" (鱷) looks reasonably mistakable for the character used for "Bear" (熊).
* Wooper is called "Darkwave" when its name in Chinese is "Wubo" (a portmanteau of Wooper's name and "Wave"). The translation for "Dark Wave" in Chinese is "An Bo".
* Bulbasaur is called "Frogseed" when its name in Chinese is "Miàowāzhǒngzǐ" (Wonderful Frog Seed).
