Amazing. If you told this was from an early version of SSF2, I would believe it. |

Wow good job. This makes me wish they made a remake of the gameboy games in the wily wars style. |

Yeah, Protoman is already really similar to Megaman. No reason he can't be a heavy edit. |

May 13, 2020, 2:57 AM | Dazz | Update: New Sprites, New Layout! |
No, the layout hasn't actually changed, only the container width. As such, it will look mostly the same on older monitors, so there's no reason to include a fixed width version that we'd have to maintain code for separately. |

@SM44 So was my MM3 DOS style version of him, except I moved the buster to the correct arm after adding the shield while this still has it on the same arm as Mega's (I just mirrored and zoomed in to check). To be honest, they're not supposed to look entirely different. |

May 13, 2020, 2:05 AM | RaguRando | Game: Street Fighter GoAnimate |
@DigitalDiamal https://www.licenseglobal.com/stub/street-fighters-avatars-arrive-goanimatecom It was almost certainly Capcom's own idea since I doubt GoAnimate themselves were interested until then. Good thing they kept their own style instead of following the typical "poor man's FOX" aesthetic (surely there must be a better term for it). Almost makes me wonder if SNK and/or NetherRealm would ever join in after this. |
May 13, 2020, 1:57 AM | shadowman44 | Sheet: Proto Man (Wily Wars-Style) |
They're just edits of MegaMan's sprites, I'd thought they would be made completely from scratch. |
May 13, 2020, 12:10 AM | RaguRando | Sheet: M-O (Super Mario Bros. 2 NES & SNES-Styles) |
Like how it turned out for me when I did Jasmine, third time's the charm. This turned out better than both WALL·E and EVE. However, just because this is my current preferred style to use doesn't mean there shouldn't be other styles here as well. If anything, WALL·E customs in Metroid or other sci-fi styles would make more sense to do. |

I personally like how they shade white with tan, as well as generally use more muted colors than typical for the franchise. I for one dislike SMW sprites' overuse in flash games. When I played flash games, 95% of them used SMW graphics in any capacity, and 75% of them used SMW graphics as the majority of their graphics. Meanwhile, the most you'd see of SMAS SMB3 was the occasional scattered Goomba, Thwomp, or Bob-omb. |

Are there any plans to toggle between the new and old layout? Most of my monitors are older, so lower-res sites tend to look better. |

@Radical Charizard. IMO, they're overused. Blame Hello's shoddy Super Mario engines made with Game Maker for that |

@willowmaine Looking into the game files, yes, it is a sprite. It uses the same lighting effects as most other assets in the NSMB game style. It makes sense though seeing as the game would probably struggle with translating all of the 2D sprites to 3D as fast as it does. |
May 12, 2020, 3:15 PM | Doc von Schmeltwick | Sheet: Enemies (SMW) |
@Radical Charizard True, but they shoulda made Bowser and Jr more like SMW Bowser in the first place XD |

Why is there a Paper Ninji here? This isn't Paper Mario. |
May 12, 2020, 2:51 PM | Radical Charizard | Game: Super Mario Maker 2 |
It appear to be sprite when looking at how it moves when Mario turns in the Story Mode levels with it. It would make sense since every other holdable object that Mario can hold, including ones that he can interact with, are sprites I believe, like the P-Switch. |
May 12, 2020, 2:44 PM | Radical Charizard | Sheet: Enemies (SMW) |
They probably just thought they would look weird next to Bowser, Bowser Jr., and Boom Boom. Plus most would've needed new frames anyway so they just said screw it. |
May 12, 2020, 2:01 PM | Doc von Schmeltwick | Sheet: Leuko & Muckle |
Oh, another thing, Muckle has easily the worst palette in the game. I mean come on, shading indigo with turquoise? |
May 12, 2020, 1:58 PM | Omega | Sheet: WALL-E (Mega Man NES Enemy-Style) |
No prob! I learned a lot when I did those Mario enemies in Megaman style, and learning what details to keep during those Smash bros sprites too (because God help me I get another fire emblem character with a million tiny things on his body again) |

May 12, 2020, 1:39 PM | RaguRando | Sheet: WALL-E (Mega Man NES Enemy-Style) |
@Omega I'm somewhat surprised how this is my first custom to attract real, constructive criticism (after 'ten' customs). Then again, I never looked into emulating the styles of the Robot Masters, bosses and enemies before, so it does seem to show here compared to my others. Despite how I did make sure to separate the components for ease of use, I get how he's not as visible compared to most actual enemies. That's indefinitely superior! I guess I was trying too hard to make him look more like himself than a Mega Man enemy, so he turned out too accurate and doesn't really fit in. The scale is also much better and he looks even more distinct from the Picket Man Bull. Thanks for the helpful tips and for taking the time to resprite him to strengthen your points. Much appreciated. |
May 12, 2020, 1:34 PM | Doc von Schmeltwick | Sheet: Enemies (SMW) |
@Globus SMW has a very limited selection of palettes, which all the bosses here break. Furthermore, all the Koopa bosses were drawn in a similar manner, with the Koopalings having a side-view unless turning, 3 fingers (until SMA2), and the same orange on the snout that most of the palettes shared (ie, Troopa skin). If this breaks what can be done in SMW itself without modifying SMW's limited selection of palettes, it's not in SMW style, and if it looks absolutely different from the exact same entity's appearance in SMW, it is by default inaccurate to SMW. The Koopa bosses here are absolutely not "SMW style" Koopa bosses, but a custom style mixing attributes, nostalgia filter, and actual skill independent of SMW's designs. They're not bad sprites, but they're bad at their job, basically. Now, had they done this in SMA2 (which they absolutely should have), this wouldn't be an issue. But if they're going to say this is how it appeared in SMW when it absolutely isn't, then that's a problem. |
