the intro is absolutely used but it plays only when you wait on the attract mode. you dont see it if you just start the game like Wanderers
Those introduction graphics to the "Chariot" game are definitely used! I think they must not show up in every version of the game because most of the videos I looked up just now skipped straight to the map but I remember seeing that scene years ago. this video shows the introduction sequence, albeit with weird scanlines on it.
