Also there's the fact that "Deep Cheep" only covers the chasing green Cheep Cheeps of the New Super Mario Bros. series (and ambiguously the Yoshi's New Island ones), and not the green Cheeps found in SMB1 remakes (being gray for technical reasons in the original), SMB3, or SPM, or the similarly-green Mr. Kippers and Blurps.
@eerie10: Karasz was referring to the fact that those Deep Cheeps actually do not appear in Color Splash, the only ones you ever encounter are the regular Cheep Cheeps. So yeah, they are in fact unused.

The second red Cheep Cheep isn't a goof, for some reason it has two sets of sprites which have minor differences between it and the original set. No idea why.
