Seriously, y'all need to stop acting like children and grow up. Just because this is a site where people submit sprite-sheets and such, doesn't mean we aren't free to talk about more serious topics like racism. What do you want us to do, act like we live in a fairy-tale where everything is happy and carefree? Pfft, no.

You know, if standing up for the rights of innocent lives makes you want to leave the site, then I'm afraid that's on you and I'm very sorry you feel that way. There is really no need to get involved if you don't support the cause or don't like us making an important statement and there was especially no need to make such comments (this goes for Doc and everyone else who is continuing to make ignorant comments).

Just please stop commenting if you are going to spout ignorance or lack civility, which includes trying to argue the message by posting BS "facts" and otherwise just showing signs of racism.

Trust me, it broke what's left of my heart having to be the fact-checker here. While Doc has a strong argument, that there is a time and a place for EVERYTHING, Ton is correct: The world is in an unstable place right now, and corruption can no longer be ignored. If this catastrophe didn't occur, we would've gladly welcomed a new staff member with open arms. I am sorry you have to go through this, Rainbow Question Mark...

I am pretty upset by the handling of that poor man by the police. However, while I sympathize, I don't believe it is any reason to burn down the whole of America and blame people who were never involved.

Political discussions that have NOTHING TO DO WITH SPRITES still clogging up recent comments section? What is this, Reddit?

Sadly, this is a possible explanation, with protests getting undermined to make the protesters look bad.

But in times where nearly everybody on social media tells or retells lies and conspiracy theories, I rather trust fact-checking websites. And I want to see some hard facts before I believe rumors.

So far, the looting and rioting seems to be done by undercover agents, to make the protesters look bad. For me, those attacks are a LITTLE too coordinated to be from those peacefully protesting. Worse, I have read recently theat ICE has been deployed to arrest any undocumented individuals in the chaos. If you followed Seth Abramson, he has been keeping track of the president's actions since his election, and starting a riot could be potentially part of his plan given how badly he handled COVID-19.

Let's hope the murderer gets thrown into jail for a very long time, maybe forever.

There were three people kneeling on him, not just one (another video with a different perspective shows that). So no reason to put one on his neck, because that alone is already life-threatening.

Even if politics is unwilling or unable to solve the roots of the deeper problems, then they should at least be able to do something about the symptoms, like forcing every police officer to wear a mini camera.

This comments section is nothing more than dissapointing. The same edgy jokes (what I like to call "jokerposting", a new way of saying "not my problem" on cyberspace when fucking ANONYMOUS HAS JOINED THE FRAY! ANONYMOUS. THE MYSTERIOUS GROUP OF HACKERS HAVE JOINED IN AND ARE DOING THE JOB THE LAW IS SUPPOSED TO DO. PROTECT PEOPLE.)

It sickens me that people are trotting out the same tired jokes and arguments from 7 years ago when they see this self evident slogan.

I don't care how angry you are at what; when you decide to start looting and damaging the properties of innocent bystanders (many of whom are already struggling due to lack of business, because viruses), you officially become thugs, and your message is invalidated.

Black Lives Matter.

I think the update title was a good choice. It can be good to speak up and say something rather than staying silent on these things. Ton and Petie, thank you for advocating for this.

I really don’t want to argue about this but to add one quick note about the implication that black lives are more important here, you do realize what’s going on in the US this very moment, right? Typically, a post with this title and nothing else would not appear on this website but there are protests and riots going on everywhere regarding the cold-blooded murder of a black man by a white cop. Yes, there are of course instances of white people being harassed, mistreated, and wrongfully killed by police as well but they’re far less common and that is what Black Lives Matter is trying to get at. It’s not a claim of superiority. It’s not a claim that they are the only victims. It’s a claim that a disproportionate number of those victims are in fact black and that’s a problem.

The goal of this update was never to start a discussion or argument on the merits of the movement or the motives of those involved. It was just to show that we, as a community, or at least we as the staff, acknowledge and support the victim here and the push for things to change. We’re a sprite website so it’s not like we can garner a ton of donations for charity or march on Capitol Hill for change but at a minimum, we can avoid remaining silent as even a tiny stand against racism is better than nothing.

In an effort to avoid this getting crazy out of hand, this will be my last comment here as well but if there are any genuine concerns you want addressed or otherwise feel there something else should be done here, feel free to use the contact form, PMs, or DMs on Discord.

@Firejoker you’re absolutely right. This IS the bare minimum. And people are still getting upset about it.

This site, and this community are great for people who want to escape from reality, and I get that. But with the world in the state it is, it’s very difficult to remain silent and pretend injustices aren’t happening. Escaping from reality isn’t an option for many people, and on the grand scale, this website full of differently-colored dots doesn’t matter. The real world is what matters. This update is a reminder to all of you to pay attention to the real world, and help people who need it.

@MisterMike I get what you're saying, and I do understand that sometimes joking about certain topics helps us cope, but I guess what I was trying to say is that joking out of mockery is shameful, and to purposely make light of the situations our world faces every day is terrible, at least to me.
