Ah, the Mildly Irritated Sun and the Bored Moon. Lots of people don't like how they look, but I kinda dig them.
Ya know the Japanese name for the sun just translates to "sun" so the developers were under no obligation to make it angry. But yeah, like the mesoamerican-ness to it, kinda like the Paper Mario sun.
It's strange that it doesn't have those maps like the other sprites in NSMBU has

The Angry Sun is based on the Thunderbird seen on Native American totem poles.
As for the Moon? It kinda reminds me of the moon aliens from the classic Gumby episode. My original guess was that it could be a shoutout to Lunatone

Oh, this is fully rendered ? It doesn't use a shadeless sprite and then a normal map like sprites did in the first one ?
