Here in Brazil, we got games till 1998, due to the system's huge popularity there

Yes because by the time this was released there the rest of the world's gaming market was already on PlayStation2 or PS1.
The rest were rare alternatives especially outside west since the west was stuck on Nintendos and Sega for some reason... At least for what people online keep telling me.
All I know that PS2 and PS1 was back then and still are the most popular platforms in the world. Even next to new releases. People simply got tired of the market greedy practices so retro is a thing and isn't going anywhere.
Brazil was stuck on 16-bit machines for a long time due to cost of living being cheaper then other places for a long time and still to this day 16bit games are sold there as new. They couldn't afford anything else from import goods.
