Probably is, to most likely avoid any legal problems with the name, which is why other unlicensed games butcher Mario's name as well to stuff like "Mary."

For those wondering, this is from an alternate version of the game where the only difference is this title screen.
besides making it so that if you touch anywhere but the bottom of the flag pole it gives you an instant game over
