Yeah, they took the other animation out for some reason.
You are correct. I checked the SNES version and he does have that animation. Not sure if it was removed however, since I rarely play GBA games, let alone DKC2, GBA or SNES.
Doesn't Link have another animation where he stands up straight with his arms folded? Or was that removed from the GBA version?
