Find it odd how the only AOSTH style of character is robotnik but SATAM has similar designs for tails and sonic so no surprises there

Yes. It was because there were 2 Sonic cartoons that were showing at that time. SatAM was the more serious cartoon with the Freedom Fighters. AoStH is the gag cartoon.
Does SatAM mean Saturday AM (meaning Saturday morning as in Saturday morning cartoons?)?
