It really makes me wonder what the Aqua/Cyan SOUL mode will be like once we inevitably get to use it in the sixth or seventh chapter. |

Some NPCs "walk" by sliding along the ground. Some characters, while designed well, sport sprites that are plain ugly to look at. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be if Undertale/Deltarune had sprite art that was on par with Owlboy? Or Eastward? Or Metal Slug? Toby Fox is one of the greatest success stories in indie gaming history. And it is a shame he chose to settle for such mediocre visuals for his games. |

| Jul 30, 2026 1:11 AM | NekoTheLad | Game: Deltarune | prompt_suggestion Simple doesn't automatically mean bad and frankly you're kind of insulting the amount of artistry and character that's in a lot of Deltarune's sprites. The games backgrounds and certain cutscenes can be downright beautiful despite how on the surface simple the art style is. And for characters the point is expression and not detail, it's why the main three's sprite sheets are so gargantuan and even more minor characters like the flowers have pretty extensive ones full of so many expressions and actions. Saying if you remove the music and story from undertale you'd just have bad art is also kind of meaningless to say you can say that about basically any other game in existence, like "Yeah if you remove all the good parts of the game then the game is bad" duh? Also Toby doesn't do the spriting for Deltarune and didn't do much of it in Undertale either (even though I think a lot of the art there is bad (unarmored undyne battle sprite). |
