| Jul 29, 2026 8:53 PM | Omphalixir | Game: Deltarune | As rude as all this will read, I'm going to be real here: The majority of this game's pixel art is bad, and, if this game never became such a success, this page would've never gotten over seven million hits. Toby's an amazing musician, and he's crafted one of the most compelling video-game plots I've ever delved into. But he is simply a bad visual artist, and, without his music and story, all we'd have here is a whole lot amateurly-designed video-game sprites I doubt anyone would really give the time of day. I'm sure Undertale/Deltarune didn't become such a huge success, it'd probably be like Hylics or OFF in terms of traction. But in a way I guess what Undertale/Deltarune ends up proving is that graphics really don't matter when it comes to video games sometimes, because I've got to hand it to Toby Fox: He still managed to catch lightning in a bottle despite how underwhelming his art is. Granted it's still no excuse for budding game developers to be lax with the art of their own games. |
