Welcome to the new Spriters Resource network!

We did it! We have finally completed the brand new edition of The Spriters Resource. We have created a video to help quickly update you on what is going on!
All sites have been upgraded, so please be sure to review our other pages! tMR tTR tSoR
We know change can be a little scary, but please be assured that Petie and I are listening to all of your feedback, and are working hard to take advantage of the new features we have implemented. As you can imagine, this site has been around for over 2 decades and there is an absolutely monumental volume of content for us to review and fix up to utilise our new features. This will take some time, but all of our staff will be working hard to bring us up to speed. You can even help through revisions of games, assets, or even just reporting things that look out of place.
We've spent over a year and a half working on this upgrade, and we're so pleased to have finally got it out into the open. Here's a list of some of the new features to take advantage of!
Browse - We've added a new browse page in the site's header. From this page, you can review all content on the site from a single place, and filter the results to what you'd like to see. This means you can review all of the latest submissions, what's currently popular with users, and easily find what you need!
Accounts - All user accounts have been brought over, so there's not need to register a new one! Users without an account will be pleased to hear that we've improved the onboarding experience to make it easier to join. Our accounts are now all managed with our own user system.
Search - We have dramatically improved our search functionality. By default, search will look for assets first, with the option to search for games from the results page. Our search now uses our own methodology, making results much more refined. You can use the header search bar to immediately search for games using the prefix "g:" as well!
Zoom Tools - You can now zoom into images by simply clicking them, with panning, zooming, flipping, rotation, and a pixel grid option so that you can better understand how the sprites you're looking at are constructed. This zoom increases with integer values, and with nearest-neighbour scaling, meaning you won't have incorrectly zoomed sprites, or that dreaded blurring. We believe this will make the user experience a lot more simple, and makes the entire site easily viewable from a mobile device.
3D Viewer - We have introduced a brand new 3D model viewer that works directly from your browser. For users without 3D software experience, this means you can easily view 3D models. This is perfect for people who wish to uses the Models Resource as a reference for their artwork, or for any number of other reasons. Not all content is immediately available within our 3D model viewer, users will need upload a separate .GLB "Preview Model" alongside their submission for this to work. At the time of launch, around 75% of the content on The Models Resource will have a model available (I've been slowly working through these for a while now) with more to be introduced over time. Please be aware that I have been creating these previews single-handedly, so there are likely to be some mistakes - but we'll be sure to fix them up if you leave a report!
ZIP Viewer - An issue of the old site was that zip uploads would need to be downloaded for users to view their contents. This was time consuming, as you wouldn't know the contents until you had already downloaded, extracted, and then viewed the contents on your desktop. Now, you can simple open the zip within the site, and utilise our zoom tools from within your browser! A huge time saver!
GIFs - We now support animated GIFs on sprite submissions. These can be added via the revision system to any asset on tSR. At the time of launch, there aren't any GIFs uploaded, but we believe these will filter in over time, with users creating GIFs for their favourite sprites. The GIF viewer allows users to utilise our existing zoom tools, but also lets users view the animations frame-by-frame with the seek bar, or previous and next frame buttons. You can even adjust the speed.
Unified Games - All games across our sites are now shared. Previously, a game would need to be given an entry into each of our sites. Now, all of our sites use a shared game database. This means any changes will occur across sites, and the site will even tell you if there is content for sprites, models, textures or sounds for a game that you are viewing, making it a lot easier to review all the content we have to offer across our entire network.
Tags - We now allow users to add tags to their assets and games. At launch, our team has been implementing tags on assets, but there is a lot of ground to cover - you can help by adding your own tags through revisions too! Many games across the network have already been tagged, with thanks to our friends over at IGDB. There will be a lot of work to refine and improve the tags system after launch, but we have a solid foundation to begin introducing tags across all sites.
Revisions - On the old site, revisions could only be made to an asset if it didn't already have a pending revision. Now, multiple revisions can be added to the same thing at the same time! You can also submit revisions for games, which will go a long way to improving our already existing tagged content.
Pending Queue - Our queue used to only be available to staff, but our new queue system has been completely overhauled. Users with a good number of existing submissions will be able to view the pending queue, and can even comment on assets that have not yet been approved. We hope this will let users provide feedback and help those waiting for their submissions to be reviewed be sure their submission meets our quality requirements. Our rejections used to also just completely delete the submission, meaning a user would need to refill the submission when they resubmit it. Now, rejected submissions have their own page on your account, so you can easily fix them up, and then resubmit them!
Favourites - Users can now take advantage of our favourites system. On every page will be a heart icon which a user can click to add to their favourites, which has their own page under the user menu.
Comment Replies - All comments now have a reply button, meaning that responses can be made directly to an exist comment. Users will also be notified of a reply, making it easier to track information being shared on a game or asset.
Mobile Experience - The entire site is now functional from a user's mobile device! We hope this will make the site functional for more people, with much of the world only having access to a mobile or tablet device. Because of the already stated features like zoom, zip and model viewers, mobile device can view the entirety of the sites without third-party software and convoluted navigation!
We hope that all of these features will help to establish a much more sophisticated experience, and provide users with quicker access to the content they want. We've been hard at work considering all manner of how users approach the sites, and want to retain a lot of the existing experience with navigating and arranging the content. We also believe these features will increase usability with newcomers, and hopefully introduce more people to the beauty of video game art.
Thank you all for your patience, and please be sure to get in touch if you spot anything that we need to address. Petie and I have been developing this new site for a while now, and there is only so much we are able to review all of the content. If we have made any oversights or there are any issues you feel need to be addressed, please be sure to use the contact form, or join the Discord and let us know!
It has been an honour to operate this site during the majority of my lifetime. I began doing so when I was barely a teenager, and the world has changed a lot in that time. The last iteration of our site was created over a decade ago, and during a pre-smartphone age. We learned a lot while introducing these features! We're excited to hear what you think, and we hope that we have done you all proud.
I also want to give some thanks. Our community has always been extremely understanding, and your feedback during the development of this new system has been extremely appreciated. Thank you to our staff who work hard to ensure this site provides quality content and is always maintained to the best of our abilities. Thank you to my partner, Melissa, and to Kristin, Petie's partner, for their continued support. I'm sure I can speak for Petie as well in stating that without their support, we would have struggled to get this all over the line.
Big love to all of you. My heart swells with the love our community brings. Please enjoy the new sites!

We get a new type of the website.

Awesome!

I'm a bit late to the party, but I just wanna say I really like the site update and the added new features (the ZIP viewer, support for GIFs, tSoR's audio player, etc.). I'm looking forward to update my old sheets to include tags and GIFs :)

There is not. The ridiculously huge results pages from the old site were actually pretty bad resource usage-wise.

Is there a way to change the number of search results per page? I'm weird and I prefer just scrolling through everything instead of having to keep stopping to start from the top again when I go to a new page.

HAHAHAHAHA DUDE THOSE SPRITE SHEETS ARE SO FUCKING FUNNY THEY MAKE ME WANNA MERGE WITHOUT LOOKING!!

This has to be the most comments posted on one update since the site was originally created.

This is incredible. I did not know this.

Congratulations on the update- and wow, what a victory. I've been looking forward to this since the livestream some months back. This is a magnificent milestone for the network. Love to see the site still so strong. Really fantastic work, everybody. 11/10

Oh ok

Thanks!

DUDE, THIS UPDATE KICKS ASS! AND I CAN VIEW SPRITESHEETS IN FULL QUALITY, NO MATTER THE SIZE!

The icon changed too, that's neat!

Looks wonderful. Excellent work folks! Thank you for all the hard work you do!

That was a forum feature. You can email other users through the site though.
