do fan characters for mega man fangames just not count under that rule? because they really should, but that'd require removing a lot of really beloved fangames for no good reason - maestro from 8 bit deathmatch, all of rock & roll, origins, and christmas carol, some of mega man arena... the list really does go on

This was something that was brought up repeatedly -- the characters in Sunky are essentially super-deformed / low-effort / "parody" versions of the already-existing Sonic cast. Just because they have goofy names doesn't mean that they're considered "fan characters", they still resemble their original counterparts.

Sonic.EXE goes against our very rules for fan characters not being allowed on the site, for starters -- just because it somehow got popular doesn't mean we should accept it. And it's not just Sonic.EXE stuff we haven't been allowing for the record, so we're not being "petty and exclusionary" there.

pretty funny how fangames of almost anything else are allowed but we're still being petty and exclusionary about exe games in 2025, going on 2026. yeah the games aren't good, but neither are a bunch of games that are allowed on the site; i get why obviously no customs are accepted, but this sheet should really open the door for existing games like the My5tCrimson original considering how damn old they are by now. hell, the sonic twitter *did* officially use its own exe sprites for halloween one year, if you want to make the official argument. wouldn't recreations of those be acceptable the same way undertale/deltarune promotional sprite recreations are? to clarify, i have no stake in this debate, i've simply been a lurker on this site long enough to find it curiously hypocritical.

hey uhmmm if somebody made a sonic.exe game in PC / Computer would that still be allowed? As technically Sonic.exe isn't an offical Sonic character but could be put in a seperate Sonic.exe game. Same for exetior as its the same case but with a different game as nightmare beginning and EOT also don't have a specific area for people to get the sprites from. would these two games be able to be added in that way?

And it will not get accepted, as we do not allow submissions of unofficial characters.

Before anyone says "but you accepted this one though!"... I don't have an answer for that, as I wasn't the one who accepted this. But we've been more selective about which kinds of ROM hacks get on the site, so don't expect another game like this to be approved in the future either.
