Hey, it's an alien brain. We'll never know.
Well it clearly also has teeth, but that's probably what it was for.
NOTE: The weird mouth thing is unused. I think it was meant to be for a part where you shoot Mother Brain's eye out, as the sprites resemble an eyelid with what is either an eye socket or a... tongue?
I believe the "Underwater" palette is used right before the dead palette is used, but after the Hyper Beam palette.
