Pretty weird that Treasure would reuse the "caged lion" enemy ten years later in Wario World. I wonder if it was a coincidence, or if the same character designer did both games.

The Jolly Monster just straight up looks like a Furby with shoes.
@WizToad: Let's just say that most of Japan wasn't quite educated with the whole "blackface" issue at the time.
That Island Native (JP) sure looks uhh... interesting.
Also interesting how the censorship was absent in the EU release (British Comedy did feature a lot of blackface at the time).
