Oh. I don't know where I got the idea that the squished sprites were only in the US version. Anyway, thanks.

The "squashed" look was down to changing from full resolution to 256x224 (similar to SNES and often used on SNES to MD ports). Sega changed the graphics for the title screen in the final versions knowing that on 4:3 TVs this would stretch out (emulators can disable the stretching). Only reason that I can think of was down to the clouds and make it use more of the Sega/Mega CD hardware.

@Cascade Computer Services no, it's in all versions

Wasn't the squashed Sonic sprite for the title screen only in the US version?

I can put it back in the pipeline but please PM me as per the disclaimer box in future. Things put in the comments can be easily lost and with over 900 sheets across Genesis and CD, I can't trawl through them all.

@Paraemon I'm pretty sure the sprite for sonic raising his eyes aren't there

Wow, this sheet went from having too little, to having too much. I don't think having the whole opening sequence to the title is needed, and it's kinda useless because the second part of the opening sequence don't have the clouds in the background

a fully complete title screen sprite at lasy

There was a whole bunch of stuff missing previously, everything for the Title Screen should be here now.

@SonicPhoenix: You mean the ones we already have?

someone should rip the full-res sprites from the old prototypes

This intimidating sprite of Sonic somehow became a reaction meme.

I'm still triggered why on the U.S version the title is a bit squished. On the PAL version it looks normal. Weird.

@TehPuertoRicanRipper As far as I'm aware, the way the clouds are rendered in the title sequence uses a part of memory which requires all of the cloud tiles to be pieced together manually. I would have ripped the cloud texture, but I wasn't really sure how to piece it all together into the proper texture. There's probably a more efficient way of ripping the texture that I'm not aware of, so I'm open to anyone having a go at it if they can. For now though, the mobile port of CD does have the texture ripped properly.

Where's the clouds?

@MCTravisYT IDK, part of me thinks that this is 3D rendered due to the shading, however, his movement looks like that of some early Japanese commercials where Sonic was claymation, making me think that this was a clay model that had video taken of, and said video was later digitized and compressed to fit the limits of Sega CD, however.

Once again I'm questioning if this was 3D rendered, and I'm talking about the sprites for him turning around because the 2 frame animation used after that looks more like it was drawn out instead of being rendered.

@EXE It's a result of how the text box is programmed, not an intentional thing. Due to the long link, it messed up the spacing on the words before it to keep the link all on one line.

@Hans: Why are you doing that?

I think they used one of these: https://twitter.com/naotoohshima/status/847104354020552706 as the reference for this animation.
