Official concept art called the STH2 16-bit one "Meca Sonic".
Dec 25, 2017, 10:02 AM
@Tonic THANK YOU! Although the thingy in Adventure is technically unnamed, it was just called "Silver Sonic 2.0" or something in the Archie comics (despite not being, well, silver).

Sonic 2 8-bit: Silver Sonic
Sonic 2 16-bit: Mecha Sonic (Robo-Sonic by Lego Dimensions)
Sonic CD, Knuckles Chaotix & ETC: Metal Sonic
Sonic & Knuckles: Mecha Sonic
Sonic Adventure: Silver Sonic

@Akira Wrongo. They one in Sonic 2 8-Bit is the Silver Sonic, while the one in Sonic 2 8-bit is Mecha Sonic. Look it up on Sonicwikia, they have sources.

now lemmi tell everyone why it says l Sonic on the Metal Sonic sprites
it might have just been that KewlZonic cut the Meta off and there were left the L there

@TwistedGear The manual states (Knuckles' Chaotix) that Metal Sonic Kai is the name of Metal Sonic's new body after his CPU was transferred from the CD version. World entrance level 2 (The final boss) has no official name.
Oct 13, 2017, 6:35 AM
@TwistedGear Oh yeah, i forgot about that one. lol
Sep 29, 2017, 8:03 PM
@Hans-Cuff Metal Sonic Kai might as well be Gundam Sonic.
Sep 5, 2017, 10:18 AM
"The Silver Sonic, Mecha Sonic, Metal Sonic, and Mecha Sonic again," Jeez, EggMan! I'm surprised you haven't made "Gundam Sonic", or "Toaster Sonic" yet...
Sep 5, 2017, 12:02 AM
I just had a thought, if based on the internal name, the little guy is canonized as Silver Sonic in Japan, we'll actually get an official translation of the name. Otherwise it will probably still be called Mecha Sonic there.
Sep 4, 2017, 9:33 AM

here. "The Silver Sonic."
Sep 4, 2017, 9:32 AM
Just saying, the manual for Sonic 2 GG called it, specifically, "The Silver Sonic." I'm not in an area I can photograph that, though I'm sure it exists as a .PDF somewhere.

Going forward, all comments about various artificial Sonics must be presented in thesis form with annotated sources and photographic evidence.

Thank you,

The Master System/Game Gear one was called Mecha Sonic in Japan too.
Sep 3, 2017, 8:28 PM
Um, the one from Sonic 2 Genesis/MD was called Mecha Sonic.....
Sep 3, 2017, 11:23 AM
Ye, it make more sense Silver Sonic, because well, its silver, to me this one its a prototype of the silver sonic from sonic 2 of megadrive/genesis, but this desing is better in my opinion, the other looks too big and slow, i was shocking when i saw him in sonic mania, cause the Master System/Game Gear games looks forgotten :/
Sep 1, 2017, 9:38 PM
Frankly it's all Sega of Japan's fault for using the name Mecha Sonic for three different creations. :V
Sep 1, 2017, 9:25 PM
I've read the manual for Sonic 2 GG, as I have Sonic Gems. And it solely calls it "The Silver Sonic." I don't care what Sonic Retro says, I'm saying what I saw. Sonic News Network Wikia refers to it as The Silver Sonic. As for filename, fine.
Sep 1, 2017, 8:37 PM
Sonic Retro's wiki even states that in the English manual for Sonic 2 for the Game Gear it's named Silver Sonic.

And yeah, as Ton mentioned, its sprite file is "SilverSonic.bin". So there you have it.
Sep 1, 2017, 8:12 PM
According to datamining, Mania refers to it as "Silver Sonic," so that's what we're sticking with.
Sep 1, 2017, 5:48 PM
LEGO Dimensions isn't canon. It's about as canon to the games as the Archie comics (Rest in Peace), and they tried to pass it off as Silver Sonic without the necessary "The."
Sep 1, 2017, 2:31 PM
@Doc von Schmeltwick
Correction: Sonic 2 genesis robot is now "Robo Sonic" as seen in Lego Dimentions.
The robot in Sonic 3&K is called Mecha Sonic

So, that's 4 times Eggman has tried to recreate Sonic.
Silver, Robo, Mecha, and Metal
Sep 1, 2017, 1:15 AM
Ugh, that shine in the "Rolling" sprites for Metal is just PAINFUL.
Sep 1, 2017, 1:14 AM
It's The Silver Sonic.
From Sonic 2.
For the Game Gear.
Only one Silver Sonic, and it's referred to in the manual as "The Silver Sonic," "the" always included. It's also the only Silver Sonic.

The Robot in Sonic 2 for the Genesis is named Mecha Sonic.

arent gg and s2 silver sonic two different things though since they have different designs?
