Close guess! From what I've seen, Susumu only has that color in the game's Time Attack mode on console ports. Mr. Driller Drill Land seems to contextualize it as an alternate outfit Susumu only wore in his second year at a drilling academy. To clarify the first comment, there's no multiplayer in the original Mr. Driller, but future games have multiplayer.
