Yup, even the special black and white Yoshis. Mainly because they're not dead, they're kidnapped by the toadies.

When a Yoshi is dead, is the Yoshi permanently not playable?
So why do you have to start from the beginning again after getting a Game Over?
When I was young I used to think the Yoshis were brought into the castle lightning-fast and following that lighting struck.
