@Void-the-Bat maybe it would just be a looping bouncing animation (as suggested by Beta64) or played before a hatching animation that was never created (pretty sure they were going to make one before they scrapped the egg idea).
The animation itself is quite well animeted, which probably means there was probably a lot more going on behind the scenes while they were juggling around with the concept of some sort of "Yoshi event".
Some people actually think this is a 3D model when it clearly isn't.
(Also, are the squishy frames separate sprites or just the first one being squished by some effect?)
