Oh. I didn't read enough, and I also misinterpreted the handling (SOMEHOW, great fucking going ExoDumbite, turn speed is NOT handling). Thanks for telling me this; but I still think that the balancing is really bad; not worse than Wii, but still shit. I mean, COME ON. Great speed AND acceleration for lightweights?! They just INSTANTLY rocket away. And sure, their handling is bad, which IS a disadvantage that matters, but remember; great acceleration, so if they didn't fall off the track, they can just pretend like the wall bump never happened. And, of course, weight DOES matter in Battle Mode, so if that is your thing, then feel free to play a heavyweight there. But in race modes... have fun fucking dying, Wario fans. So it's no wonder why speed and acceleration should just have an inverse relationship, plain and simple.
Not exactly
The medium characters have the same top speed as the heavyweights and have better acceleration at first, but their acceleration slows down whereas the heavyweights' speed spike up and get to their top speed faster.

So if anything, there's no point to playing as Mario or Luigi because at least the heavies can push everyone around easily

This game unironically has the absolute worst balancing in the entire series. With exception of Bowser's Triple A-tap acceleration, the heavyweight characters ONLY have a weight bonus; they lose out on EVERYTHING ELSE. What even IS the point of being a heavyweight if you can't even keep up with your lighter competition?!
@Mittens0407 If you look carefully, its down to the tire palette. It's not like old racing games where the tyres just use a basic cycling palette (black, dark grey, light grey), usually the tyres themselves being a few dots or line stripes. There are also some pixel differences too.
If there are any duplicates though, just let the ripper know.

All the racer sprite sheets are 4 times larger than they need to be, with every angle being represented 4 times for some reason.
bup
@thejohnston7 if it did use 3D models, the racers would look more like Sonic R or Diddy Kong Racing, where it's all low poly and could probably cut through metal
All right, guys. It has been almost a year since Doc commented and over three since kaunch has, and it is finally happening. I will be ripping Toad and Donkey Kong...eventually. I highly suggest you use Pitstop64, as it is a quick and easy way to rip textures and sprites. The characters, not so much. I'll try, though.
I also ripped the minimap icons, but they're still pending

@Taco Toad and D.K. haven't been ripped, simple as.
Where IS Toad...?
Until I saw this page, I thought this game used 3D models for the racers.
@CrazyMario64 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
hmmm
i wonder if the original SGI models will leak someday?
especially for the tracks, these are very cute!!

Actually they recovered 80% of the stuff from the hard drive crash, they maybe had the beta rom pre-compiled but not the source.
@Void-the-Bat yeah
I guess the only way we'll truly get Kamek is if we do it ourselves.
My talent for doing things likes this is very, very low. Hopefully, some brave soldier will take the challenge to remake Kamek in Mario Kart 64's style.
