Ok, I will try it.
Did you follow the included readme? Simply patching the ROM isn't sufficient. You need to:
- Copy your SMB ROM to the "smevolution" folder and rename the ROM to "smb1.nes"
- Run the included .bat file. It should generate a "256kb_smb1.nes" ROM with the appropriate size.
- Patch the modified ROM with the included IPS file.
Tested with Mesen, and it works fine.

The game still crashes. I even tried Mesen and it still crashes.

Try using BizHawk.
I tried FCEUX and Nestopia. The hack wouldn't work.
Have you tried using a different emulator? Super Mario Ultimate doesn't work on one, but works on another.
I can't even play the hack. It crashes immediately on start up. :(
I remember when I first played this rom hack on this site called Vizzed.com, I got stuck on the first stage, and haven't played since like 2012.
