The original PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 version is yet to be ripped, I am gonna to do playable characters and title screen.
Ocean gave this game more love than Taito ever did considering that they did most of the ports, even the Game Boy port. The US wouldn't have got the original TurboGrafx-16 version if it wasn't for Working Designs. Taito even retconned this game when they did the later Bubble Bobble games, think Bubble Memories is classed as Bubble Bobble 3 with the same subtitle? (Know Bubble Symphony is called Bubble Bobble 2 in some countries and Bubble Memories is a sequel to that.)
Also the Rainbow Islands 2 tag was for pretty much marketing purposes since Rainbow Islands had a really good reputation and that it features the same two characters (well usually one character as per Ocean ports). Still it didn't sell that well...

From what I can find it seems like the subtitle was "Rainbow Islands 2" on the box but "The Story of Bubble Bobble III" on the title screen. (Except the TurboGrafx version which used the latter for both.)
The actual title is just "Parasol Stars: the Story of Bubble Bobble III", if I remember correctly. And that's what the NES version was called.
Believe me there are games out there with much longer titles.
