Small correction that's mainly pedantic but technically, no version of the original Maniac Mansion ever established a surname besides Schwartz. It was the Maniac Mansion TV Sitcom that decided to give them the surname Edison, which was then adopted by the sequel Day of the Tentacle (which may or may not be a coincidence itself, I know Ron Gilbert never saw the show but it's possible one of the people working on DOTT did). So if looking only at the original Maniac Mansion, ignoring sequels, they're the "Schwartz" family.
Fun Fact: The initials end in 'S' because the family's name was originally going to be Schwartz but was later changed to Edison.
