The main character seems to be a Clarisse clone in terms of her character design.
(For people who may not know, Clarisse from The Castle of Cagliostro was REALLY popular in the early 1980s to the point of dedicated fanzines and her character design was basically ripped off left, right and centre. GAINAX's first animation had a rip off character along with so many pop culture characters. She pretty much also kicked off the trend of moe characters.)
