Honestly, those unused warp sprites are pretty cool.
I feel like those can be used for some sort of dash or just for when jumping, hitting a wall, SMASHING agaisnt the ground after a LOOOONG leap of faith.

i feel like the shrinking sprites could be used as an alternate death animation. like time over
@bloxy Maybe the original makers had that in mind when designing those sprites, but when the Sonic 2 spriters were redesigning Sonic 1's sprites, they didn't know that and just made the cuffs white.
i wonder how fhe "yanked/falling" sprites would have looked like in game

@Qbix1234: Sonic doesn't have the ability to Spin Dash in the original version of the first game, that was something that only modern ports (such as the Mobile version) added.

ITS A SHOE BLUR. THE WHITE AND RED ARE BOTH BLENDING TOGETHER TO CREATE A BLUR TO SIMULATE MORE OF A RED CIRCLE/OVAL
