Despite it being the first in the series, it's a standalone series with anthromorphic machines, rather than the unit and pilot in later games as the sequel retcons this title, the first of many. Girgilgun's status as an OG has been debated ever since. However, the events of the first game may have been the basis of Shin Getter Robo: Armageddon due to the similarities of the events playing out in the final fight and the main antagonist's design.
