I never knew this was on the DS, only knew of the GBA version. I was thinking the DS version would have been similar to The Sims 2 on DS where it had similar gameplay to the GBA version, but had a third person perspective in 3D, and some exclusive things like a usable piano I remember seeing in print ads for this game.

It's not a "dumb duplicate". This is the DS version of the same game. It has some additional content and maps are easier to rip (bigger screen).
