They resemble his moves in Brawl, which would have been the only Smash game he was in when this was made. Note how they're attack-oriented, with the spinning specifically resembling his special moves from the game. Granted, they're also similar to Sonic Battle sprites.

@Beanluv Umm, these actually are pretty Smash-esque, do not lie.
There are a few random sheets that were just crammed into the Smash Bros. Customs just because said sheets were of a character that was in Smash. This is a prime example of one. These sprites aren't even based on the Smash Bros. Sonic, so obviously this sheet wasn't made with the intent of somebody using it for a Smash Bros. fan game. I think these types of sheets should be removed from the Smash Bros. Customs because of this.
