I'm definitely the first one to not speak on nostalgia, as I wasn't really around during the absolute peak of Mario flash games. And I will say, these are some of the best early custom Mario sprites for sure, but all I wanna talk about is the damn death by fire sprite. Call it overreacting if you will, but... it just IRKS me. It ain't no "ohh owie my ass is on fire" thing, he fucking DISINTEGRATES TO PURE ASH, UNDOUBTEDLY OMEGA 100% DEFINITIVELY DYING, in what is otherwise quite a pleasing sea of sprites. It irks me just as much as Bowser freezing and shattering at the end of Mario is Missing on the SNES.

I remember those Super Mario Save X flash games and I agree with you because some versions of those have an incomplete level 1 where the P-switch is missing, stating that there's no way to beat the first level after the tutorial and that series of bootleg flash games by 4v4.com always stressed me out and I didn't know that the Bowser sprite comes from the infamous bootleg Super Mario World game for the Sega Genesis that is the same game as Squirrel King that is an unlicensed Disney game, but with Mario and Luigi instead of Chip and Dale.
PS: Do you remember that SpongeBob flash game that uses the same engine as those crappy Super Mario Save X flash games where he has to save Gary? Because I remember i found it on a random SpongeBob flash games website, including another one with Ronald McDonald that used the sprites from McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure if you could help me remember the names of those.

This sprite was used in so many "Mario saves x" games (Examples: Mario saves Sonic, Mario saves Luigi which uses a stretched out Mario with green clothes and Mario saves Yoshi) which are just reskins of each other (not counting the Pichu one) and I hate that because those are pretty terrible and sorta ruined the sprite for me. Good thing its grace was not completely sullied since it was in Star Scramble

Hm. Must be after my time. Back when I played flash games, it was almost always the SMW Mario. If not that, you'd occasionally see the MLSS one. Granted, this was back in like 2006 or so.
