Pallete reverse is a cool idea
TheGameyFireBro105, just because Mario can hold boxes doesn't mean he can pick up stuff. link can hold his bomb, but not items.
This looks more like SMB1 SMM2 style than SMB1 NES style.
@TheGameyFireBro105 Did you forgot the super jump and ride enemies? (i think theres more)
that tecnically means that this power-up would allow smb1 mario to pick stuff up, making smb2 mario obsolete.

I've been waiting for someone to do these outfits in the styles of the first games. Having grown up with a certain British construction worker, I thought the caps on their original sprites already looked more like hard hats compared to the more peaked design they've had since SMB2.
