The main Sonic sheet even includes a custom Super Sonic (which was used in a fanmade PC remake titled Somari 3D Blast 5). There are also the redrawn versions from the Improvement hack of the original:

(I prefer V1.2 since it's meant to look like the S1 Genesis version, which makes more sense than the S3&K style).

I know this is two months late, but no, the green flashing Emerald isn't exclusive to the Genesis port. I just found out there seems to be a palette glitch when the Emerald is flashing in the Attract Mode. Instead of being green like in-game, the bottom half of the Emerald's Flashing frame is colored black for whatever reason. I'll upload a revision to include the green palette.

That light green in the palette is the deafult placeholder for the electricity colors in Eggman's "electrocuted" sprites.
