I guess they did it to make it stand out from the green and black tileset from the game, but unlike the NES Batman this game's graphics were bad to begin with.

A Hack is a graphical alteration, a Homebrew is an unofficial game released long after the system's lifespan, and Unlicensed is a game like Wally Bear or Gauntlet, which didn't have Nintendo's OK during the original lifespan.
