I'm pretty sure the pink ones are the digging animations for upward and downward.

Also, the unused ones where originally planned to be Link holding his sword diagonally, since diagonal movement was implemented, they also wanted Link to be able to slash his sword in that same direction, which didn't really work out.

@Akira Wrongo. They one in Sonic 2 8-Bit is the Silver Sonic, while the one in Sonic 2 8-bit is Mecha Sonic. Look it up on Sonicwikia, they have sources.
