@VGTurtle Couldn't agree more. I especially want to hear an orchestrated version of the fortress theme for that game, it's an absolute banger. |

So it's just Big Koopa Troopa now. He may be big, but he lost a few pounds. |

Glad somebody actually made custom sprites for this guy. If Nintendo ever wants to make a new Kid Icarus game, I hope they include elements from Of Myths and Monsters, even if it was unreleased in Japan until its Virtual Console release. |
Apr 30, 2018, 8:05 AM | Ton | Sheet: Battle Backgrounds |
So it looks like these are the correct size, but a LOT of them are missing. On the other hand, Ryan's rip has a bunch more backgrounds but they've been cut off. |

Apr 29, 2018, 10:44 PM | Dolphman | Game: Strip Fighter 2 (JPN) |
What's surprising is that this game did somehow get a sequel for Windows PCs. Has more characters, including one that's blatantly a ripoff of Mai Shiranui and another who's obviously Hitomi from Dead or Alive in a generic magical girl outfit. |

Apr 29, 2018, 9:04 PM | Doc von Schmeltwick | Sheet: Doc Robot (Mega Man X-Style) |
@Shadowman Because this is an old-ish sheet from back when edits were typically far less inconspicuous? Doc Robot needs more love. That's where the first word in my screen name came from, after all (albeit indirectly...) |

Why does he use Sigma's face? |
Apr 29, 2018, 4:44 PM | Yawackhary | Sheet: Shooting Star |
@shadowman44: Nope. Pure sprites as I got them from the tile viewer. It ran on the same hardware as Final Lap R (it ran on the same engine as that game and a bit of a glorified hack with powerups) and were some of the last arcade hardware that was sprite focused before going to polygons. 1995 is pretty late for a 2D Namco game anyway. Also it's silly that 4 of the cars including the Mach 5 were put together in one blob but Racer X and another car repeats its tiles 4 times. |

@Kyoshi4000. It's called that because it breaks 16-bit limitations. Though I think 32x would've been a better name for it. :P |

Missing horizontal poll sprites were added, which have a unique starting frame. |

@Dolphman In the PC (and maybe SNES) version of Mario's Time Machine I didn't play, one of the things Bowser stole was a pre-release copy of the game itself, apparently trying to keep Mario from stopping him or something. It doesn't work, and Mario ends up returning it, and having to deliver the (extensive) bug report to another member of the company, who then provides an equally-extensive bug fix for Mario to give back to the first guy. I think, though I may have some details wrong, as I only ever played the NES version... Basically, they were meta and knew they were cruddy at programming Mario games. |

Apr 29, 2018, 10:23 AM | Kyooshi4000 | Sheet: Sonic |
I don’t like that the Modern pallete says ‘broken’. Is it because they think Modern Sonic is broken? Other than that, this sheet is cool. |

@beanluv Nope, Miles in US version. At least, it's been that way in every compilation that uses the US-based "GENESIS" in the title.... |
Apr 28, 2018, 8:34 PM | The Great Papyrus (Nyeh) | Sheet: Heavy Magician |
I can imagine that, near the start of Encore Mode, Sonic and co. find a pile of the Hard-Boiled Heavies, deactivated. Suddenly, the Heavy Magician powers on, floats out of the pile, tips her hat 180 degrees, the Phantom Ruby floats out, she revives the rest of the Heavies with it, and scoops the Ruby back up while putting her hat back on. |
Apr 28, 2018, 7:31 PM | Dolphman | Game: Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt! |
Jazz Jackrabbit is more of a parody of the trend than playing it straight like the others. The comic in the manual even has a cameo of Sonic, demanding for his lawyer. XD |
Apr 28, 2018, 6:28 PM | ZetTheLegendaryHero | Update: Is It Finally Spring? Or Is It Summer? Who Knows! |
===================================================== Favorite Categories this Update: Arcade and Neo Geo / NGCD Honorable Mentions: Game Boy Advance, SNES, Game Boy / GBC, NES, Saturn, DS / DSi, 3DS, Genesis / 32X / SCD, Master System, PC / Computer, and Mobile. Special Mentions: Custom / Edited and Nintendo Switch Other: CD-i ===================================================== Well, my favorite sections on the site is the Arcade and Neo Geo sections. So, of course, I am going to love any updates featuring those sections. Featured on my top 10 consoles/computers/handhelds list are the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, and Genesis; so I'm going to also love update featuring those sections. I like the DS line for being the successor line to the Game Boy line, so that updates in those sections are always a plus. The Master System was the precursor to the Genesis (in both a business sense and a technological sense), so again that's a plus to any update. The PC / Computer and Mobile sections are so varied that the style, limits, and age of the hardware they are meant to represent span basically the entire spectrum. However, I can usually find a plus in these for any update they are featured in. The Custom / Edited section, I find a plus due to the fact that some actual art work had to be made (from either scratch or by modifying existing work). As for the Nintendo Switch, while I can't make any generalizations, this update was a plus. Finally, the CD-i... Well the CD-i was made because people wanted all-in-one multimedia devices, Philips, did exactly that with the CD-i. The CD-i was a game console, a CD player, a device that could play videos and view pictures on CDs, a reference machine, and an edutainment machine. People asked for that kind of thing at the time, but as it turns out, they weren't willing to spend money on it. The CD-i had some good games, but sadly it is mostly remembered as a console with bad games that featured Nintendo characters, and weird reference material. The story of how Philips got the license to the Nintendo characters is... Nintendo originally went to Sony to make a CD addon for the SNES, but that deal fell through (the prototypes for the SNES CD would evolve into the Sony Playstation). Nintendo then went to Sony's rival, Philips to produce the SNES CD, Nintendo gave Philips a license to the characters from its 2 biggest franchises: Mario and Zelda. This lead to Philips licensing out the Nintendo characters for its CD-i console. I believe that Nintendo also had to approve of these games in some way too. But either way, this lead Nintendo licensed games on the CD-i. The meme worthy three games: Hotel Mario, Link: The Faces of Evil, and Zelda: Wand of Gamelon. These titles seemed to be just money grabs banking on the Nintendo characters. One more Zelda title was produced for the CD-i, Zelda's Adventure. This game was far more ambitious, featuring digitized graphics, live action cutscenes, and a far more traditional style of gameplay for a Zelda game. However, due to the game being average, and the cutscenes being of badly acted, but not meme worthy this game would be forgotten. Those faults are mostly due the fact that the game had a far lower budget than the other Nintendo CD-i games. Also, time restraints and the skill of the team might have factored in. Two more Mario games were in development for the CD-i: Super Mario Wacky Worlds and Mario Takes America. Super Mario Wacky Worlds would have been a sequel to Super Mario World and would have played and looked much like a traditional Mario game, but sadly the game only made it to the Alpha stage of development, which actually has been found and has had the prototype game turned into a CD image file. Mario Takes America would have been a Edutainment game mixing live action footage and animation, but due to technical limitations on the CD-i, it ran into problems, and lost its license. No prototypes, screen shots, footage, or assets of this game exists online. Now, knowing all that... I still love an update with CD-i content. ===================================================== My rating for this week's Update: 10/10 |

Just seeing the title screen alone was bad enough. When he says he's Awesome, I immediately don't think that. Sure, that's his name, but it's like they named him that just to specifically allow him to say that. Definitely giving off that "trying to be cool in the 90s but not actually cool realistically" feel. I didn't even play the game, I only saw it in a Sonic the Hedgehog rip offs video featuring Dolphman's holy grail (AKA Jazz Jackrabbit) and a few others. |

Some people actually think this is a 3D model when it clearly isn't. (Also, are the squishy frames separate sprites or just the first one being squished by some effect?) |
