| Aug 23, 2022 6:06 PM | TherealRNO | Asset: Animal Friends | Up at the top, I recognize Ricky & prototype-Sally (gender-bent Ricky with a bow, as authorized per the 1991 promo comic printed in-house by SEGA of America itself & conclusively proven through released merchandise using the Ricky model meanwhile using the Sally Acorn name, such as a PVC statuette figurine labeled as Sally Acorn yet missing the gender-defying bow atop her head to basically confirm that Ricky & Sally are one and the same stateside), reaffirming the Princess of Mobius as a SEGA creation (for as the Saturday Morning cartoon's closing credits state "All Characters & Names Licensed by SEGA of America(c)SEGA of America, 1992") who canonically predated Rosey the Rascal/Amy Rose. I also recognize Pocky (the rabbit serving as the precursor to Johnny Lightfoot, Bunnie Rabbot, Vanilla & Cream). But apparently, Rocky (the walrus precursor to the character who would become Rotor "Boomer" Walrus in the U.S. & Joe Sushi in European countries) is missing, as is the bluebird Flicky, Porker Lewis the Pig, and other notable "tiny animal friend" characters. I wonder why certain other characters are absent whilst we get Ricky/proto-Sally, two sprite colors (light blue & light gray) for Pocky, a grizzly bear & a penguin? |
