Ya know apparently Cody's SFA3 role was originally meant to go to Joe from the first game. Would have done wonders to make him less generic.

I think he means the games after that. Mainly due to how much they ignore the first game's characters besides those who returned and kept appearing.
Technically he was brought back for Capcom vs SNK 2, and those sprites were used in the reduxes.
He was in the reduxes of Alpha 3....
Come on Capcom, why won't you bring this dude back?
