Papyrus is a writing canvas similar to paper. The font was named after the paper. This character was likely named after the paper, Toby's character was named after the font. The word was not spontaneously created as a name first. So no one stole anyone's name.
The Egyptian theming of this character makes Papyrus a fitting and logical name, actually.
@PGE Who knows? Probably not but anything's possible. It is kinda funny these two characters have the same name, even if they're actually referencing to different things.
