@Tailikku Nah, it's not really crazy. They don't have a good reason to actually care about that. Most (if not all) normal players that don't use emulators wouldn't notice it to begin with.

The Super Mario Bros Boss Stage is the same here and on the gba

Yeah, that jpeg effect is a big problem.

It can't be a .jpg. .jpg can't store transparency, iirc, and the top says it's a .png. How about read the disclaimer?

Also, the sprites are compressed in-game anyways due to the smaller resolution used on the sprites.

why do these sprites look JPEG'd???

Mario swimming sprite appeared in Super Mario Bros when you get hit and shrink, I duno if it's used in this minigame tho
