@P-P Yes. The same thing happens in Koopa Beach 2.
Its rainbow road but better.

It's probably there to keep people properly lined up before the start line, since the rest of the track is all curved. (I haven't played it but that's my guess at least.)
What's with that goober bit of track below the mushroom?
