Probably it was the name and publisher change that throwed it off, to the point that thought it was a different game until the theme song played. What makes it strange was that Japan got John Madden Football on the Mega Drive around the same time (just without the 92 on the title) so wonder why EA went to a different publisher... Even the sequel changed its name and intro but at least kept Madden somewhere in the game.
