Wonder if someone might rip sprites from the first Koumajou Densetsu... But I'm fine with the sprites here. Reimu is pretty much ripped from the first game anyway.

yeah those are remake of older fangames, that won a contest.

I'm also glad they finally started releasing official English versions lately.
Heck, seeing two of them receiving PS4 ports were instant buys for me.

ZUN is very open about fangames, being a doujin creator himself.
The only thing he wants is that they shouldn't use his assets (i mean, who wouldn't use ZUN's sprites?),respect the "doujin spirit" and credit him in some way.
Fans, for this reason, make a lot of profit with fanworks, and they can make a lot of quality products.
Anyway touhou isn't the only fandom with astonishing works, Yume Nikki and I wanna be the guy have awesome fangames, i would argue better than the original game...
but yeah, those are freeware games, and touhou is something really different

I do know of the term. There's even been times where legal issues got involved.
Like with that Mega Man fangame starring Roll. (Rockmen R: Dr. Wily's Counterattack)
The developers got into a lot of trouble for selling it.

In japan they have a concept called doujin, that allows to make profit out of them.

Touhou fans really amaze me with how much talent and effort they put in these parody fangames. Same with the fangames with original ideas, and officially licensed spinoffs.
