Why are his and Luigi's overalls blue when the artwork for the game has them red? That's something that confused me for a long time.
@fnf_fan_9999 those are for the white eye color, layered behind Mario.
what's the dot for at the end of each of the rows for?
Growing up is realizing that the bodies for the small sprites are just the big sprite body but roughly 50-70% of the size and hardly touched up. And then the head is mostly the same.

@Jod Dan: It's the fourth sprite. It's used for a regular jump and when he jumps while carrying something.

They could work as "extra" sprites in that style though. But they aren't exactly the same.

Remove the white from Mario's eyes (like in the prototype) and voila! You have SMB3 sprites!
